Product Description
Get your Lomi before the holidays
You do the cooking, Lomi does the food cleanup.
The odor free, mess free solution to keeping your food waste out of landfills.
-
Nobody likes ants, fruit flies, or maggots.
Lomi allows you to avoid attracting pests, and turns your waste into nutrient-rich dirt.
-
Produce 80% less waste every week
You'll be shocked at how much less waste you produce each week.
-
Small enough to put away, so beautiful you won't.
Lomi is designed to sit on your kitchen countertop and is small enough to be stored in your cabinet.
-
With Lomi, you simply press a button.
Lomi's internal sensors simulate and accelerate the composting process to as little as 4 hours.
The only electric appliance with a net positive impact.
Lomi uses 70kWh of energy per 100 cycles. That’s less than an energy star approved refrigerator. And those 100 Lomi cycles make a big positive impact. They equate to: 220 lbs of food waste diverted from landfill & 18lbs of methane emissions avoided
How much electricity does Lomi consume?
Lomi uses a very low amount of electricity, so you won't need to worry about over use!
How loud is Lomi?
Lomi is a quiet kitchen appliance! When running, Lomi makes noise comparable to a fridge, which is less than 60 db. It’s around the same or less than a coffee maker, modern dishwasher, etc!
What are Lomi’s dimensions? How big is Lomi?
Lomi measures 16" W x 13" D x 12” H or 228mm W x 388mm D x 314mm H. Lomi users live in small city apartments, cabins in the woods, huge mansions and everywhere in between.
How often might I use Lomi?
If you cook often, and eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, you’ll likely run Lomi frequently!
With a household of four, Lomi is typically used every day. We’ve found on average that a family of two might use Lomi about twice per week.
What can I add to Lomi? What goes in Lomi?
Lomi loves all sorts of food waste and Lomi Approved products, and even break down some organic waste that traditional compost cannot!
For the best results add a diverse mix of foods and cut up larger pieces of food scraps before adding them to Lomi.

Footnote: I initiated another return and thankfully I was able to cancel that one as well. The reason for the initiation? When plugged in, the Lomi wouldn't start after I pushed the button. The button wouldn't even turn it on. The customer service never made any suggestions other than to return it. When I started to take it apart to put it in a box, I found that the cord that plugs into the wall, also plugs into the lomi. I'd forgotten about that. It had worked itself out of the lomi when I turned the lomi a little bit. After I plugged it back into the lomi, it worked! Again, saving the hassle of the return. The reason for my posting that bit of information is so that if your lomi doesn't work, you check both ends of the cord to see they're both plugged in.
After careful research, I purchased a Lomi composter on December 12, 2022. The return window closed on January 31, 2023 (50 days later).
This composter is a good idea and seems to be sturdily constructed. However, I think the parent company (Pela) put this item on the market before working out all of the kinks.
There are a variety of problems with this product, only one of which will I describe here.
When we received our Lomi composter, we read the instruction manual carefully and followed all of the included instructions. Initially, the composter worked as advertised, and we were very pleased. However, a few months after we began using our Lomi, we found that composted kitchen waste was baked onto the bottom of the bucket (see attached picture). This happens about once every three or four times we use the composter.
Sometimes, this baked-on compost is thick enough that it jams the rotor. More often, the rotor will still turn. Sometimes, I can carefully remove the baked-on compost with a plastic tool (again, see the attached photo). Other times, I have to soak it out (thus, rehydrating what I’ve just paid to dehydrate); the consequent swelling can also jam the rotor.
The only other person I know who has a Lomi composter has reported experiencing the same problem.
I don’t know what causes this problem. However, I’ve noticed that after the light comes on to indicate that the Lomi is cooling, the light indicating that the Lomi is drying remains on. If the machine is supposed to be cooling but it’s still drying (hence, heating), maybe that could cause this problem.
In any case, although I strongly support winter composting and, thus, conserving landfill space, I cannot in good conscience recommend this Lomi composter.

The mode that claims to break down “biodegradable “ plastic was run through its cycle twice. The first run through shredded the plastic ( which we had already cut into small pieces and not put much in) and the second run through melted it.
Additionally food gets stuck under a metal L shaped blade guard at the bottom of the bucket. Sometimes it becomes so obstructed that the blade cannot turn and that part has to be disassembled from the bucket. This disassembly/assembly process can be quite time consuming.
The longest cycle can take many hours. If you’re using a TOU (time of use) plan with your electrical provider there is no way to schedule the process and thus this can get pricey if you’re using it frequently. If you’re not using it frequently you need to throughly clean the bucket and blade between uses which can be quite difficult because of waste getting trapped by the blade guard.

It is fairly quiet, but it does take up counter space, so be sure where you are putting it before ordering. It is portable, you can easily move it from place to place.
